A nice memory

102 fever. Really had to stay in bed and rest.
I hate being sick- especially on my sabbatical where I have so many things that I want to accomplish. But one of those things on my list is to "Slow down." so I guess that I can check that one off my list. Today I did nothing.

At around 2pm I was lying in bed, and a blast of sunlight hit the bed. It's funny but I have been living in this house for almost 30 years and I doubt that I have ever been in bed at 2 in the afternoon. Anyway, it was a delicious burst of warmth that transported me back 50 years when I was sick at home.

As a kid, the best part of being sick was that we got to spend the day in my parents' double bed. Their bedroom was sunny and warm, and it was a real treat to spend a day in that bed. Even today- I would never seriously think of lying on my parents' bed for a day unless I was sick. My mom would visit with tea and buttered toast, and would be cooking chicken soup for lunch.

But mostly I remember the sun hitting their white chenille bedspread. The bedspread had those funny chenille lines and bumps that you could play with. I  remember feeling warm and safe lying in that bed.
