I wonder what would have been created if Hundertwasser had been a crazy quilter- using up left over bits of color. I wonder what his quilts would have looked like.
In graduate school he was my favorite artist- I decorated my room with his postcards that had magical bits of gold stamped in different places.
He was always compared to Klimt- but I always thought Hundertwasser was much more sophisticated- and I would not be caught dead with a poster of Klimt's The Kiss. And now when I look back at his work- his use of color is thrilling- like he had a giant scrap bag of colors at his disposal.
But of course he was not a crazy quilter- but a deliberate artist/ architect/ writer. I was amused to find that he called straight lines, "the devil's tools." so maybe he was an improvisational quilter at heart.
