Second place.

I got a lovely call from the head of AQA yesterday letting me know that I got second prize in the show. And it comes with $500 which should be just enough to cover the cost of canceling the trip to see the show open. But I will also say that my competitive nature immediately went to why I did not get first place. This is definitely a topic to continue with my therapist. Finally being able to see the show online I was really pleased at the high level of the show and proud to have gotten in.
We have spent a lot of time talking about shows  and how to get our work seen. And I have mixed emotions. I want my art to be seen but I am not sure that I have to time to go what is necessary to get my pieces out there. I have learned that networking appears to be the way to get the word out and that is something I have to do both in business and in my personal life. So hearing that networking is important in my art is just plain unfortunate.

Entering shows is fairly easy, but then I am at the mercy of judges who may or may not understand what I am trying to achieve. I have come to realize that seeing all my pieces being hung in one place at the same time is pretty compelling.. They support each other and the effect is strong. But finding the right opportunity is not going to be east. But perhaps that should be the goal I set for myself.
