Un-multi-tasking

hats

I wear too many hats. Like the old Dr. Suess character Bartholomew and the 500 hats, everytime I take a hat off there is another one there. Some of the hats I wear:
business owner
creative director
mother
daughter
daughter-in-law
wife
sister
sister-in-law
strategist
friend
quilter
mentor
home owner
second home owner
employer
neighbor
dog owner
And this weekend, with the help of my therapist, I am going to try and take off all my hats and only wear one- that of mother. Only wear one hat as I watch my daughter graduate. Put aside all business concerns, all scheduling issues, all life and death issues, all mother-daughter stuff, all sister-brother arrangements, all quilting, all other family issues, all worries about the house and the beach house. Take away all that stuff. And just be happy for my daughter. Just be a proud mama as I watch her take the next step in her life.
